Corporate social responsibility
At Leeds Day, corporate responsibility is about managing our business in a way that enhances the positive and minimises the negative economic, social and environmental impacts of our activities.
It requires us to successfully balance the interests of our different stakeholders through the quality of the judgments that we make. Those stakeholders include our clients, employees, suppliers and the local communities which we serve. The trust of these groups is fundamental to our day-to-day business success and to protecting and enhancing its value into the future, so that we can deliver our overall corporate purpose – the responsible and profitable delivery of legal services.
Sustainable development
Sustainable development enables individuals to meet their basic needs and enjoy a better quality of life without compromising the quality of life of future generations.
The UK Government aims to pursue that goal in an integrated way: achieving a sustainable, innovative and productive economy and a just and healthy society whilst respecting the limits of the planet’s environment, resources and biodiversity.
In fulfilling our role in meeting this goal, our corporate responsibility will endeavor to contribute to society’s wider goal of sustainable development, through:
Maximizing the positive economic benefits and prosperity that legal services bring.
Minimizing our negative impacts and working with others to help ensure that our offices and staff play their role in respecting environmental limits.
Contributing to social inclusion, justice and communication, through the delivery of legal services to the local community.
Making a positive contribution to the skills, knowledge and motivation of our staff and building transparent and accountable relationships with all of our stakeholders.

Our aim is to:
Provide sustainable growth to underpin the success of our business in the short and long term.
Anticipate future scenarios, new regulation and market trends to ensure the responsible development of our business into the future.
Benefit local and regional communities by providing pro bono advice at Citizens Advice Bureau and offering support to local and national charities. For example supporting Will Aid and fundraising for a nominated charity.
Work with local education providers to ensure that local communities benefit from the employment and career development opportunities that exist within our practice.
Provide fair opportunities to local suppliers to maximise our positive economic impacts at a local level.
Our environmental contribution:
We will seek to reduce and mitigate our environmental impacts.
We will use resources as efficiently as possible and, in the context of further development, invest in the quality and capacity of facilities and design them for maximum flexibility and with a view to longevity of use.
We shall recycle and reuse equipment insofar as possible, including separate waste disposal arrangements for safe disposal of batteries and aerosols, ink cartridges and IT equipment.
We shall reduce the amount of paper waste that we produce. For example by photocopying and printing in double-sided format and questioning whether we need to produce copies at all. Reducing confidential waste costs by ensuring that the non-confidential paper collection is secure
When choosing new equipment, we will consider their environmental credentials as part of the specification process.
We will reduce the amount of business travel by making more use of online conferencing and training and combining journeys to increase efficiency and encourage car sharing.
