Wills and estate planning – Free Wills

Leeds Day operates a Free Will Scheme with three charities and invites people who are charity supporters to come and review their Wills or make new Wills free of charge.

The way that the Free Will Scheme works is that anyone who is aged over 55 (aged 50 for Cancer Research) can make their Will without charge.  The Charity pays our bill for preparing your Will but would hope that you would leave them a legacy in your Will.  You are under no obligation to do so but all legacies help the charities continue their life saving work.

The charities we work with are:

  • The Stroke Association

The Stroke Association is the only UK- wide charity solely concerned with combating strokes in people of all ages. It funds research into prevention, treatment and better methods of rehabilitation and helps stroke patients and their families directly through its rehabilitation and support services. These include communication support, family and carer support, information services and welfare grants.

  • Cancer Research UK

Cancer Research UK is the world’s leading independent organisation dedicated to cancer research. They support research into all aspects of cancer through the work of more than 4250 scientists, doctors and nurses

  • Institute of Cancer Research

The Institute of Cancer Research was founded in 1909 as a small research  department of the Royal Marsden Hospital. The charity relieves human suffering by pursuing excellence in the fight against cancer through research into causes, prevention, diagnosis and methods of treatment of cancer.  They also educate and train medical and scientific staff as well as providing treatment and care of the highest quality for cancer patients.

  • Will Aid

Will Aid runs annually in November and is a charity Will making scheme which raises funds for people in need here and around the world. The scheme is run by nine leading charities and solicitors’ firms throughout the UK. Will Aid offers you the opportunity to have your Will professionally drawn up by a solicitor but instead of paying the usual fee you can make a donation to help some of the UK’s best loved charities. The money raised by Will Aid supporters goes to Action Aid, British Red Cross, Christian Aid, Help the Aged, NSPCC, Save the Children UK, SCIAF (Scotland), Sightsavers  International and Trocarie (Northern Ireland). We participate in the Will Aid charity scheme and donate our fees for preparing Wills under the Will Aid Scheme to the Will Aid charities.

How to use the free Will service

Please make an appointment to see us and tell us which of the three charities you would like to support.

If you want to participate in the Will Aid scheme make an appointment to see us during November.

We will then prepare your draft Will and send it to you for approval. You will need to sign your Will and once the Will has been signed we will approach the charity for the payment of our bill for preparing your Will for you.

After your Will has been signed we can store it at our offices at no extra charge to you but will supply you with a photocopy of the signed document for you to have with your papers.
