National minimum wage increases from today, 1st October 2014

National minimum wage increases from today, 1st October 2014.

The national minimum hourly wage increases to the following:

1. the standard adult rate (which applies to workers aged 21 and over) has increased from £6.31 to £6.50

2. the development rate (which applies to workers aged between 18 and 20 inclusive) has increased from £5.03 to £5.13

3. the young workers rate (which applies to workers aged under 18 but above compulsory school leaving age who are not apprentices) has increased from £3.72 to £3.79

4. the apprenticeship rate (which applies to apprentices under 19 years of age or those aged 19 and over but in their first year of their apprenticeship) has increased from £2.68 to £2.73
